Delicate root vegetable that produces large, round, even roots. The foliage is dark green, upright and disease resistant. Easy to grow, but takes a while. Good for storing, can also be parboiled and frozen. Tolerates cold in autumn but not in spring, do not put the plants out too early. Prefers humus-rich and preferably chalky soils. Fertilise and water abundantly.

Sow sparsely in damp seed compost. Do not cover with compost. Keep moist. Transplant 1 plant/pot of fertilised soil, or sow in plug flats. Place in a bright, cool area. Harden off and transplant outside after the last frost.
