Our Batavia lettuce variety, Lollo Rossa, will provide crispy, fresh lettuce all summer long. Batavia lettuce can also be referred to as French crisp or Summer crisp lettuce.
Batavia lettuce can also be referred to as French crisp or Summer crisp lettuce. The names refer to the texture, since Batavia lettuce is as crisp as romaine, but without any of the bitterness. Batavia lettuce forms compact rosettes of crinkly leaves. This variety, Lollo Rossa, has leaves with an intense green colour with red-toned edges. By sowing these seeds regularly, you can enjoy eating crispy, fresh leaves all summer long. The plant prefers sandy, well-drained soil that retains moisture.
Pre-cultivation and direct sown
February - June
March - July
May - September
When planting your seeds outside, water the soil before sowing and keep the seeds moist at all times. Since lettuce does not grow well in high temperatures, make sure the temperature does not exceed 20°C.
If you want an earlier harvest, start pre-cultivating your seeds 3-4 weeks before replanting them outside.
