Turnip

Delicate, fast-growing brassica plant that can be eaten raw or cooked. This variety produces round, flat tubers with a sweet taste. Should be sown in batches so that you always have floury and tender turnips. Harvest when tender, older ones become woody and bitter in taste. Thrives in most soils, preferably clay. Like all brassicas, needs plenty of fertiliser and water. Cover with fibre cloth to avoid cabbage root fly infestations.
