Large and lush leafy vegetable used like spinach. Start harvesting leaves gradually. Can be direct sown but starting seeds is recommended. Soak the seeds 1 day before sowing. Prefers a sandy, nutrient-rich soil.

4-5 wks before replanting outside. Sow on damp soil surface. Cover lightly and keep moist. Place in a warm area for sprouting. After emerging place in a bright, cooler area. Transplant 1 plant/pot of fertilised soil. Harden off and transplant outside after the last frost.
Level soil, water before sowing. Keep seeds moist until they germinate. Sprouting time 2-4 wks. Cover with a fibre cloth.
