Popular, traditional and reliable plant that blooms with fiery red flowers at the height of summer. Beautiful in flower beds and as a cut flower. Very hardy, flowers nicely even in cold and rainy summers. Prefers sandy soils, but is undemanding. Readily self-seeds.

Sow sparsely on damp seed compost. Keep seeds moist. When plants can be handled transplant 1/pot of fertilised soil. Flowers sown in autumn should be overwintered in a pot in a sheltered spot. Transplant to the growth site the following spring.
