Crispy ‘Red Toga’ Welsh onions/spring onions have mild tops and a delicious bulbous base! The flavour is slightly reminiscent of leeks and is perfect for garnishing salads or soups, for example. In spring, you can sow ‘Red Toga’ sparsely in damp soil and leave the seeds at room temperature. After germination seedlings do best in a bright cool area. When plants can be handled transplant 1 plant/pot of fertilised soil. After the last frost, it’s time to plant out! In the summer, it is possible to direct sow as soon as the soil is workable. Water the rows before sowing, keep seedlings moist until they germinate. You can continue to sow the bulbs, even in the autumn. The plants then overwinter and will produce an early harvest next season as spring approaches. Welsh onion can be harvested in several different stages and can provide food for a long time. They also tolerate cold and can be overwintered!
