Batavia lettuce

Batavia lettuce can also be referred to as French crisp or Summer crisp lettuce. The names refer to the texture, since Batavia lettuce is as crisp as romaine, but without any of the bitterness. Batavia lettuce forms compact rosettes of crinkly leaves. This variety, Lollo Rossa, has leaves with an intense green colour with red-toned edges. By sowing these seeds regularly, you can enjoy eating crispy, fresh leaves all summer long. The plant prefers sandy, well-drained soil that retains moisture.
