Beautiful delicacy and a challenge to grow. Harvest when the tips of the bracts begin to curve outwards. Thrives in nutrient-rich, well-drained and deep soil in a warm spot. Water well, give extra nutrients during the summer. Can overwinter outdoors in a favourable position, or in a pot frost-free.

Sow sparsely in damp seed compost, place at 18-20°C. Transplant when the plants are big enough to handle to 1/pot fertilised soil. Place in a bright, cool area, 12-18°C. Harden off and transplant outside after the last frost.
Level soil, water before sowing. Keep seeds moist until they germinate.
